A few extras from the busy month of beautiful October! 🎃🍁

Beautiful sunset from my parents' front yard. 🌅 The spider pumpkin decoration is so cute too! 10/12/23

Northern Lights, 2/28/21

Sunday, March 7, 2021

A few nights ago we probably had the best Northern Lights show so far this winter. (Previous years they have been better, but this show was pretty good!) They were really dancing and super active all over the sky. I took these down at the KGB pullout and they were so amazing!

I loved the purples too!

Northern Lights, 2/19/21

We've got some HUGE news! We are moving to Utah! It was on this day (2/19/21) that Scott was offered a job in SLC! He'll be working with University of Utah Health and we are so excited! We can't wait to be closer to family, but we will definitely miss Alaska!

Scott will be starting his new job super soon, and I went out this night thinking it might be the last time I see the Northern Lights. I've been lucky to see them several more times, but I was still so glad to see them this night. They were kind of more north east, which gave my photos a different background and a bit of a different look. Enjoy!

Love the mountains in this, looking out over the inlet

Northern Lights, 2/1/21

Saturday, March 6, 2021

I've been able to go out several times this winter to see the Northern Lights. They're always so amazing, even in the freezing cold! They're always so different too; sometimes more yellow green, sometimes more blue green with purples, sometimes more of just a band in the sky, sometimes super active and dancing. I always love seeing them! This night they weren't the brightest, but you could still see them moving and it was so cool! Enjoy!

Northern Lights, 1/5/21

Wednesday, January 20, 2021

Welcome 2021! We're ready for you! A few nights after the new year the Northern Lights were out and it wasn't too late, so we took the whole family out to Point MacKenzie and watched them for a bit. They weren't super strong, but you could see them and we had fun taking pics. Noelle and Robyn pretty much just wanted to stay in the car, but Scott, Ruby, and I got out and had fun. Alaska is so beautiful!

Northern Lights, 12/23/20

After everyone getting to bed after a big day at the reindeer farm I started to get notifications on my phone that the Northern Lights were out! I took a few pics in our driveway to verify, and then decided to wake Mike and Kay up, haha. I kinda scared Scott when I woke him up, but it was all good, lol! Scott stayed home (sleeping) with the girls, and I drove down KGB with Mike and Kay and we watched the lights. We kind of missed when they were the brightest, but we could definitely see them on camera, and we had fun star gazing too. We were out for about an hour before going back home to bed. It was pretty fun, haha!

Northern Lights, 2/28/19

Monday, March 18, 2019
We were so happy the Northern Lights decided to come for just a bit while Chrissy was here. They weren't the most impressive I've seen, but still pretty neat. I love the Northern Lights!

After the girls had gone to bed one night Chrissy and I drove down KGB by the church to watch them. When we pulled into the parking lot of the turn off on KGB our headlights were shining right on a moose across the street. It was in someone's yard and their dog was barking at it. We couldn't see it once we turned our headlights off and started taking pictures so every time we heard a little noise we jumped a bit, but we were fine and the moose never came close to us, haha.

It's pretty cool how they dance and change in just a few seconds.

Northern Lights, 11/4/18

Tuesday, November 20, 2018
Just two days after getting back from our trip to Cali we were greeted with an amazing Northern Lights show! It was early in the evening, maybe around 8:30-9, so we didn't even have to stay up late! Unfortunately the girls were still on California time so they were already sound asleep. But Scott and I definitely enjoyed the show. Scott is usually unimpressed with the lights, but not this night! They were really bight and actively dancing so it was really fun to watch :) These pics were all taken in our driveway. Enjoy!

Northern Lights, 9/10/18

Sunday, September 16, 2018
One good thing about our days getting shorter is that we can now start to see the Northern Lights again! Yay! I love being able to see the Northern Lights. I think they are so beautiful and so amazing, especially on the nights where they are really active and dancing. I don't think I took any pictures of them last year because I couldn't really leave little newborn Robyn, although I do remember watching them a few times through our bathroom window (the only upstairs window facing north).

Last Monday night I started getting notifications on my phone that the lights were out so I packed up my camera and tripod and went down KGB by the church to take a few quick pics. It was a little scary going alone, but luckily a nice someone else was there also watching the lights and I was able to help her with her camera settings. Next time I'm definitely taking a friend, though. (Any takers?) Enjoy these beautiful aurora pics!

I love how they just dance across the sky!

Northern Lights, 10/13/16

Friday, October 14, 2016
Yesterday I started receiving tons of notifications on my phone that the Northern Lights were supposed to be out and be really good last night. I really wanted to go out and see them, but it's not really the ideal situation to take the girls out in the cold so late at night, so Scott stayed home with them and I called up my friend Erica who went out with me. We left around 9 pm and drove to Eklutna Tailrace. We got there and the lights really weren't out, but we decided to stick it out because the forecasts were so good. We just visited in the car until about 11:15, and then I said, "If they're not out by 11:30, let's leave." Luckily right after that they got really good and we got some great shots. We stayed until a little after midnight and then enjoyed them all along our drive home too. It was such a fun evening and one of the best Northern Lights shows I've seen! :) Enjoy these pics!

Northern Lights Round 2, 9/2/16

Monday, September 19, 2016
A couple days after the last Northern Lights show, the lights decided to come out again and Chrissy was here so we decided to go take some pics! They were so beautiful! Chrissy was very excited to see them, and I was too. :) She arrived Friday morning and stayed with us until the following Thursday. We had so much fun and really enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and weather! We only had one rainy day, so we were able to do lots of fun stuff! Stay tuned for more blog posts to come!

Northern Lights, 8/31/16

Thursday, September 1, 2016
The Northern Lights came out to dance last night and they were amazing! They were out after the girls had gone to bed so Scott stayed home with them and I went to our usual spot down by the church. It was a nice, balmy 50 degrees! So nice to not have to get all bundled up! I love that the lights always look so different each time they come out. Last night I saw a lot of pinks and purples towards the south. It was so cool! I feel so lucky that we get to experience these in person by living here. I get so excited each and every time I see them! :) Enjoy these pics!

Northern Lights, 12/31/15

Monday, January 4, 2016
The Northern Lights were out and shining on New Year's Eve! What a way to welcome the new year! Yay for 2016! They were amazing (as usual), and out early! We drove down to a little lookout on KGB a little ways past the church, and took these around 8 pm, so Ruby was still up and able to see them! Noelle stayed asleep and cozy in the car. :) I've been following a Facebook group for Northern Lights which alerts me when the lights are active. Thanks to that we've seen the lights a ton more this year than in the previous years we've lived here. They are beautiful and I've enjoyed learning how to capture them in pictures. Enjoy!
